Be Your Own Authority

Jun 14th, 2008 | By Suzanne | Category: Purpose | |

When you’re not sure which way to go, or what to do - be your own authority. “Fine plan,” you think. “But just exactly how do I do that?” you ask.

It’s simple. Maybe not easy, but definitely simple. Get to know yourself really well. When you know yourself well, it’s much easier to discern what’s right for you from what’s wrong for you. Add a double shot of self-acceptance, and you’re truly ready for the world!

If you ask ten different people what you should do in any given situation, you could get ten different answers. We’re all different. What’s right for you might not be right for me, and if I don’t know myself well enough, I might not know the difference. Even worse, I might be inclined to make my decision based on what’s right for you and then wonder why it is I’m miserable or things don’t ever seem to work out for me.

It’s fine to seek the opinion of others in the process of forming your own. We all learn from each other in that way, and that’s a good thing. It’s fine to enjoy the recognition of others for things you do well, but there’s only one person’s approval you really need: your own.

When you know yourself well, there’s a whole layer of drama and conflict that just evaporates like steam on the bathroom mirror. You can see clearly, you know what you want, and there’s so much less confusion involved.

And the best part? People are drawn to your confidence, drawn to your integrity, and those who value you for who you are start showing up when you start showing the world who you really are. So you see, there’s no need to fear shining your light. To the degree that you do, your life will be filled with what’s right for you - people, things, opportunities.

Be your real self. Be your own authority.
