Becoming Yourself

Feb 1st, 2008 | By Suzanne | Category: Taking Action | |

“She was becoming herself and daily casting aside that fictitious self which we assume like a garment with which to appear before the world.”

— Kate Chopin

In more than one conversation this week, I found myself saying, “You’re just becoming yourself, that’s all. And change, of any kind, tends to make us nervous, makes us question ourselves and generally feels unsettling. That’s normal, but it doesn’t mean you should stop.”

It would be nice if becoming yourself was a predictable process, metered out in manageable doses, but it’s not, typically. In my experience, it happens in waves, like the ebb and flow of life itself. Take some time on a regular basis to reflect, think, dream, meditate and enjoy the ride.
