Create Your Personal Life Purpose Statement
Jan 15th, 2008 | By Suzanne | Category: Purpose | |If you’ve been following this blog, you’ve been doing a LOT of searching, listing and prioritizing what matters to you, what you really want for your life here of late.
Now, it’s time to distill all that information down into a personal life purpose statement. Why? Because you will need a reminder as you begin to organize your life around it.
Your personal life purpose statement will serve as a compass to direct your thoughts, words and actions as you create the life you really want to live. It reflects the “whys” of your life, and decisions will be much easier to make regarding the “whats” of this life you’re creating by measuring everything against it.
Let me give you some example personal life purpose statements:
- To inspire and empower people to achieve their destiny.
(Robert Allen, coauthor of The One Minute Millionaire) - To inspire and empower people to live their highest vision in a context of love and joy.
(Jack Canfield, author of The Success Principles and coauthor of the Chicken Soup for the Soul® series. - To leave the world a better place than I found it, for horses and for people, too.
(Monty Roberts, author of The Man Who Listens to Horses) - To create and inspire one million millionaires who each give $1 million to their church or charity.
(Mark Victor Hansen, coauthor of the Chicken Soup for the Soul® series. - To educate and inspire people to live their highest self based in courage, purpose and joy, versus fear, need, and obligation.
(T. Harv Eker, CEO of Peak Potentials and creator of the “Millionaire Mind” seminar.)
Notice that each of those statements is an action statement? Yet none of them detail the “what” or the “how”, they simply answer the questions, “Why are you here? What is your purpose?” That’s what you’re after with your personal life purpose statement.
Here is mine:
- To use my experience, strength and hope to support and inspire others to live a life authentically their own, realize their potential, and leave their mark on this world in a way that is meaningful to them.
When I say it out loud, I literally get goosebumps - it’s that meaningful to me.
Why?
Because when I am living my purpose, I am experiencing joy - pure, unadulterated, makes-me-tingle-all-over joy!
Now it’s your turn. Create your own personal life purpose statement, and share it here in the comments!
