Gratitude Story #23: Wonderful Friends and Family
Dec 14th, 2007 | By Suzanne | Category: Gratitude | |From the Wausau Daily Herald website.
Elvira Saeger, 79, of the town of Maine had back surgery in January. Her son and daughter-in-law from Minnesota helped her for a few days, but then needed to go back to their homes.
That’s when Saeger’s friends and neighbors took over.
“They watched over my house, picked up the mail, watered my plants, fed the birds, and cleared the yard and sidewalk of snow. Food was brought not once, but several times. Had lots of phone calls, cards and prayers sent my way and trips to Marshfield for follow-up appointments,” wrote Saeger. “Spring came and so did help with the yard that my daughter was unable to finish. Blackberries were brought over and had help picking elderberries to make jelly in summer. A new freezer was picked up and the old one removed from the basement. Some manure was brought for my flowers and garden and had help spreading it. Blades were sharpened and oil changed on my lawn mower. Rain gutters were cleaned and was given rides as: ‘We are going right past your house anyway.’ The list goes on.
“I am SO blessed to have such wonderful friends and neighbors to watch over me, as my family lives hours away and can’t always be here to help. I have SO very much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to you (you know who you are).”
