When Things Get Tough Do Your Part and Detach

When things aren’t going the way you plan or the way you want, it’s easy to get frustrated and become your own worst enemy through worry and self-doubt. You can nitpick yourself to death, obsess about what you should have done instead of what you did, wish you could turn back time and say something different, and generally drive yourself to distraction trying to control outcomes. But what good does any of that do?
None. Nada. Zilch.
So what can you do instead? The only thing you could do to begin with: your part, and then detach. Let go. Trust.
What’s your part? Simple, it’s:
- Your thoughts
- Your words
- Your actions
Most of us, if we’re honest, will get tripped up on the first part - our thoughts. What are you thinking? Are you thinking of all the awful things that could happen next, or are you thinking of all the blessings you have all around you, enthusiastically anticipating all the blessings to come?
What about your words? Are you speaking negativity into your life? Are you a doom-sayer? Are you talking about how bad things are? Or are you speaking positively about all the abundance filling your life right this minute? Are you speaking faith?
What about your actions? Are you in panic mode, thrashing about in search of a quick fix to your problems? Are you reacting instead of taking action? Or are you moving forward with confidence in the direction of your dreams?
Abraham Lincoln said people are as happy as they make up their minds to be. I agree. So when you’re being challenged or life presents you with an unexpected “adventure”, the best thing to do is your part and then let go of the results. Do your best, put it out there, and then detach. Don’t make yourself crazy. Stay calm, concentrate on the possibilities, be open to the opportunities coming your way, and detach from your idea of how things are “supposed” to happen.
Odds are life will pleasantly surprise you. Things have a way of working themselves out, and as long as you concentrate on your part in things, you’ll be too busy to worry about the rest. Yes, ask for what you want, but when asking, remember to add, “…this or something better,” just on the off chance the Universe has something better planned for you than you did. It happens!
